A PROUD New Mexican raised in Las Cruces, ZACK QUINTERO IS A PRO-UNION, COMMUNITY POWERED, DEMOCRAT RUNNING FOR STATE AUDITOR TO FIGHT FOR ACCOUNTABILITY, EQUITY,
AND ACCESS TO JUSTICE FOR THE PEOPLE OF NEW MEXICO.
Zack Quintero has dedicated his career to standing up for working people and restoring public trust so that government works for every New Mexican in each corner of the state.
The son of a public school teacher and plumber, Zack watched his mother organize to improve our public schools and he witnessed his father's determination, faith, and resilience as he faced racism at job sites for his skin color and for speaking Spanish alongside co-workers. His parents inspired a commitment to activism and the fight for human rights.
A lifelong New Mexican, Zack has worked to improve our communities on the local, county, and state levels, most recently serving on the state Medical Advisory Team and as the State Ombudsman for New Mexico. In these roles, he supported the statewide response in keeping New Mexicans safe and carried out investigations into predatory practices of abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of the most vulnerable New Mexicans.
Zack graduated from New Mexico State University and University of New Mexico School of Law. He has two degrees from NMSU, one in Economics and the other in Government. While attending UNM Law, he served on the New Mexico Law Review and was on the executive board of the Mexican American Law Student Association and the New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association.

During college, Zack worked in southern New Mexico, advocating for migrant families to have access to basic infrastructure and bringing attention to human rights abuses. He also developed strong work experience with the emergency programs division of the US Treasury Department and US Department of State.
Upon graduating, Zack was recruited to serve in Santa Fe, specializing in economic development to alleviate family poverty and retaining New Mexico's young diverse talent for local and state businesses. While working for the City of Santa Fe, he was elected as the President of the statewide Young Democrats of New Mexico and grew the state chapter from 1 to 29 counties.
Zack began law school at UNM and was nominated and appointed to work on the Bernalillo County Air Quality Control Board. His work focused on bringing resources, advocacy, and justice to communities hit hard by environmental harm. Zack also started community organizing to have more diverse representation in local and county boards.
Following law school, Zack was recruited to work in the Governor's Office. When the pandemic took place, Zack was assigned to serve on the Medical Advisory Team (MAT). While on the MAT, Zack supported and coordinated between the emergency response team, rural hospital group, and alternative care sites. The work of these groups established crucial timelines to keep New Mexicans safe and supported throughout the pandemic.
After serving for the first 5 months of the pandemic on the MAT, Zack began his service as the State Ombudsman. In his statewide ombudsman role, Zack refined and created new projects that supported resident rights, increased investigation options for families, and directly managed investigations on issues of abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation. Zack expanded the program to involve dignity, wellness, and access to justice.
